WeWine is built partly on open data and public-domain works. We credit them here and next to the content they power.
Wine data: X-Wines
Part of WeWine’s wine catalogue and taste model is derived from the X-Wines dataset — 100,646 wines and 21 million ratings — released under the CC0 1.0 public-domain dedication.

Winepedia: original writing, Wikipedia and Wikidata
Winepedia articles are original writing by WeWine. We use Wikipedia only to cross-check facts, and no Winepedia article currently reuses Wikipedia text. If an entry ever adapts a Wikipedia article, available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 licence (CC BY-SA 4.0), that entry will link to its source article and the licence, say that changes were made, and be shared under the same licence. Structured facts from Wikidata are available under CC0.
Winepedia aroma pictures: AI-generated
The 129 aroma pictures in Winepedia are AI-generated images created by WeWine with the Kling AI image generator. They illustrate what each aroma word compares a wine to, are not photographs, and carry an “AI” label wherever they appear.
Venue locations: CartoCiudad (IGN)
Coordinates for venues are derived from CartoCiudad, by Spain’s Instituto Geográfico Nacional, under a licence compatible with CC BY 4.0: Obra derivada de CartoCiudad CC-BY 4.0 ign.es.
Place information: Google Maps
Ratings, opening hours and reviews labelled “Google Maps” come live from Google Maps Platform, are shown with Google’s attribution, and are not stored by WeWine. They are subject to the Google Maps / Google Earth Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy.
The Wine Legends: public-domain books
Each Wine Legend is built from its author’s public-domain book, from libraries such as Project Gutenberg, Internet Archive, Wikisource, HathiTrust, the Biodiversity Heritage Library, Wellcome Collection, the Biblioteca Digital Hispánica and BiValDi. The app shows the book and edition behind every persona. Portraits are AI-generated interpretations and are labelled as such.

Review notes for counsel: the commercial licence terms for the Kling AI aroma images are still to be confirmed before launch (plan §7); the aroma families follow the structure of the aroma wheels used in wine education (Wine Folly’s 14 families, structure only — no artwork or wording reused): decide whether to credit that publicly. The IGN attribution follows the CC BY 4.0 formula of Orden FOM/2807/2015 (the plan’s older wording “cedido por © Instituto Geográfico Nacional” was replaced) — confirm the CartoCiudad product date for the credit; licence of the Valencia neighbourhood boundaries (Ajuntament de València open data) still to confirm.
